These jungles are safe hideout for terrorist so no wonder they can be attacked anytime from any side. Ram Prasad was very carefully moving forward suddenly a landmine blast took place and gun-firing stared from all sides. He came into reach of landmine blast and became unconscious.

                                                  Loss of Central Lower Jaw

Ram Prasad was sent to best government center of India foe the plastic surgery for treatment of loss of jaw and chin. As Jaw reconstruction surgery is a challenging job he was treated by best plastic surgeon doctors. He underwent 3-4 consecutive surgeries for getting new jaw and chin but unfortunately all failed. Doctors refused to do further surgery. He accepted the agony of life and prepared himself to live such a devastating life for his family.

He was not able to close his moth as his lip was stuck with neck skin. He lost his social life. It was very disheartening for him to move around with mouth always open. He used to keep his disfigured covered by cloth. Biggest problem he had was continuous drooling of saliva as he was not able to oppose his lips. It was very unhygienic for him. He was not able to take water in sitting or standing posture. He could take liquid diet only that too in lying position with face up.

But he wanted to live a meaningful life for his family. He had full support of his family and friends. He had not tasted food for last two years as he was not able to chew. As he was real fighter he wanted to live a graceful, hygienic life with grace.

One day when he went to hospital for his routine follow up he met another soldier friend who was treated in our Plastic surgery department. He advised to visit our department. Ram Prasad visited us with great hope in his eyes to live and get rid of this agony.

It was very difficult for our plastic surgeon to accept this challenge as he had already experienced multiple failed surgeries. Now his jaw reconstruction had become a herculean task. We were aware that after so many surgeries, there are high chances of failure. Initially we were not ready to go ahead but his debilitating condition, his expectation from us and intense desire to live was compelling us to accept the challenge.

Our biggest apprehension was higher chance of failure of surgery. Ram Prasad was told about the complexity of surgery. He was ready to accept any fate. Ultimately we planned to take the risk and reconstruct his jaw and chin.

His jaw bone was reconstructed by bone from leg and chin was reconstructed by skin and muscles of leg. It was a 14 hour surgery. Three doctors of our team performed the different staged of surgery. Even after surgery there were high chances of various problems leading to failure. But Ram Prasad being a very tough man got through all the difficulties. It was a successful surgery and he was relieved from hospital in a stable condition.

Within few weeks he was able to close his mouth. Now he can eat and take water in sitting posture. Now he doesn’t need to cover his face in public place. He had joined his duties and living a graceful life. It was a biggest moment for our plastic surgery team when he came to thank us with his family.
