Chin Implant surgery is gaining popularity these days in both man and woman.

Recently I received a call from a n owner of a nursing home. I was asked to treat a patient who was already operated for chin implant surgery but the surgery went wrong.  Patient’s stitches gave way before healing. Now patient was having a open wound behind lower lip and implant was visible through it. I was called to close this wound.

When I asked about the history of patient I was told that he was having small chin since birth. He consulted in nursing home for same. He was advised that chin implant can improve the chin and lower face.

Patient was operated not by consulting doctor but by different doctor and chin implant was put over the jaw bone behind lower lip. Patient was not very happy with the results he got. He visited again the nursing home and expressed his concern. He was evaluated again by operating surgeon and patient was advised that as chin is very short so will require another implant.

Mr rajendra visited South Delhi Cosmetic Surgery Clinic for the treatment of a swelling on Face. This swelling was exactly near the left side of nose. He told that it was initially very small but keeps on increasing in size. Now it was approximately a grape size. He was not having any pain in this swelling. There was no sign of infection in this swelling. As a plastic surgeon when we examined it was found to be face cyst. We labeled it as a sebaceous cyst under the skin.

What is the sebaceous cyst?

A cyst is a soft tiny balloon like structure which is filled with fluid or cheese like structure. It has a wall and collected substance inside. Sebaceous cyst develops from the oil producing gland of the skin. These glands are called as sebaceous gland. These glands produce an oily substance known as sebum. Whenever external opening of the sebaceous gland gets blocked due to any reason, the sebum gets collected inside and this leads to a swelling below the skin.

Meaning of Gynecomastia

Man breast is very awkward condition for a man. Normally breast is feature of women. If there is a bulge in the chest region below the nipple this condition is called as man boob or gynecomastia. Some men complain that they have puffy nipple or Puffy chest. This puffiness of the nipple is because of enlargement of breast gland.

What age "Gynecomastia" appears in?

Gynecomastia usually appears between 13-15 years of age. In some cases it is visible in middle age or older age.

Symptom of Gynecomastia

The main symptom of gynecomastia is an enlargement of the man’s chest. It appears puffy chest. Some young men also complain of gynecomastia pain.

What are the signs of man breast gynecomastia?

Gynecomastia or man boob is increase in size of man breast gland. It usually develops at the age of puberty. Breast Gland is firm in consistency.

One can identify this gland easily.  You can hold a puffy chest area below the nipple between two fingers and thumb and try to roll it between them. You will notice a firm round nodule which slips between fingers and thumb. 

This firm structure below the nipple is breast gland. Area of the chest around the breast nodule is softer. This soft part mainly has fat deposit.

In those cases that have lost most of their body fat by the workout, breast gland is left but all fat is lost. This breast gland is present below the nipple and areola. This is seen as gynecomastia lump below nipple. One can easily feel this gland. This is known as Grade 1 gynecomastia.

Gynecomastia lump is variable in size. When these boys come to the cosmetic surgery clinic, they complain that nipples appear very prominent through T-shirt.

In severe grade of gynecomastia, breast shape is like that of woman breast. These cases are easily diagnosed as case of gynecomastia or man boobs.

Man breast gynecomastia is also seen in middle age or older age person. This is softer than in younger  age group persons. It consists mainly of fat deposits.

If man breast gynecomastia in middle age or old age is solid and painful one should immediately contact with the plastic surgeon. It may be man breast cancer.
